Career Center - Graduate Peer Educator / STDT 4

All student workers in the Alumni, Career, Annual Giving, Pipeline Development and International (ACAGPDI) unit are expected to be flexible in their job assignments from day to day. Required skills and qualifications will remain consistent, but assignment areas and work directors will vary. Additionally, all student workers are expected to assist with front desk coverage whenever needed. 

Graduate Peer Educator Job Description:
·      Provide career services on location in specific graduate departments as determined by need
·      Advise graduate students on career and internship-related topics, such as resume/cover letter writing, internship & job search, and general career exploration questions
·      Create, design, lead/facilitate in-person and online events; recruit faculty, employer, and staff speakers; coordinate logistics and monitor event budgets
·      Participate in marketing activities to various student groups and units on campus; create marketing materials for events; develop content for graduate student newsletters
·      Participate in graduate student advisory functions for multiple committees
·      Assist students with the use and organization of resources in the Career Resource Library, Handshake, and online career resources
·      Create & distribute advising materials/handouts
·      Participate in Triton Career Fairs and other Center and Alumni related events as determined by need
·      Attend peer meetings, trainings and occasional off-campus training
·      Contribute materials to GPEP training manual
·      Obtain and assess data on graduate career development needs across campus; facilitate focus groups and report on results
·      Manage shared GradCareers email inbox & calendar
·      Serve as liaison to graduate student employees and leaders in departments and student organizations
·      In absence of a lead career advisor, assist with managing their ongoing projects
·      Complete additional career-related projects as directed

·        Other duties as assigned, to be determined.

General Qualifications:
·      Must be able to commit to working at least through Spring 2021. Being able to work through Summer 2021 / into academic year 2021-22 is highly desired.
·      Must pay UC San Diego Student Services Fees each quarter working (must have paid Spring 2021 student services fees or be a Fall 21-22 new or re-admit to work Summer 2021).
·      Hours worked may not meet or exceed 19.50 hours without explicit approval from Supervisor. While we do our best to accommodate student academic/personal schedules, we reserve the right to limit hours if an effort to coordinate schedules becomes too restricted.
·      Proven leadership abilities.
·      Exceptional oral, written, and digital communication skills.
·      Demonstrates professionalism and integrity at work.
·      Strong customer service skills, ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, Data Entry, Outlook and ESP), detail oriented, punctual and reliable, professional, and ability to use professional judgement.
·      Previous office experience preferred, but not required.
·      Must be a current graduate student in a Masters or Doctoral program in any field.
·      Must have experience in making presentations to large and small groups and an interest in helping others.
·      Prefer graduate students who have completed at least 2 years of their program.
·      Further, each student must meet the following required minimum qualifications necessary to perform the duties successfully:
o  Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
o  Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy and flexibility.
o  Ability to handle high level customer interaction and work well under pressure.
o  Punctuality and dependability required in attendance upon hire.

Job Location: this is currently a remote job opportunity; when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted this may convert to an in-person position.

Hours Per Week: 10 hours/week

Start Date: March 24th, 2021
